GSD Innovations Signs MOU with Kinshasa General Hospital for Off-Grid Solar Installations

Kinshasa General Hospital

Chicago and Kinshasa, 06 June 2020: GSD Innovations, LLC (GSD), a leading turnkey solutions provider in the renewable energy, rural development and waste management sectors, today announces the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Kinshasa General Hospital, the largest government owned hospital in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), for the development of portable, off-grid solar solution sets that address the urgent energy capacity and reliability needs at the hospital. The specific hospital divisions covered in phase one of the project include women’s health, maternity, labor & delivery, pediatrics, and infectious disease units.

The project, in line with the vision of GSD to develop innovative strategies using proven technologies to empower those in need, will be implemented using solutions from US-based Inergy Solar and Sesame Solar, with Solutions Inside.

This agreement foresees the implementation of all project development and project implementation work by GSD.

The project has full support from the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and hospital administrators. The cooperation is expected to be further expanded and continued to include additional healthcare units at the hospital.

In terms of schedule, the phase one of the project should be completed by the end of 2020 and the subsequent development phases should follow in 6-month increments. The project implementation phases could be launched as early as this July.

Dorian Dickinson, Managing Partner of GSD, comments: “We are very proud of the signing of this major new agreement with Kinshasa General Hospital, which is in line with the renewable energy and sustainability initiatives outlined by the DRC government and the hospital’s professional administrators with regard to the development of off-grid solutions to address critical failures in the delivery of reliable electricity to the hospital campus.”

In the first phase of the project, three 41.8kWh total battery storage Sesame Solar Off-Grid Solar Power Solution Nanogrids, with solutions inside, will deliver auxiliary power to the hospital’s critical care units. GSD will also provide thirty Inergy Apex portable solar generators as part of phase one deliverables. The Inergy Apex generators will be used as supplemental power for vital equipment and for rapid response efforts as needed. This collaboration will greatly enhance the hospital’s share of renewable energy supply.

"We have an urgent need for additional electricity capacity at Kinshasa General Hospital. We believe that the proposed solar nano-grid and portable solar generator solution will be beneficial to our needs and will improve the medical services we can offer our patients in our critical care units", says Dr. Clément Mbaki, Medical Director of Kinshasa General Hospital.
